The belief that material possessions are bad has caused many to stumble since the first century church. Although the Bible can be used to build a case for and against accumulating wealth, we need to understand the overarching view as contrasted to worldly philosophies.
Colossians 2:8 teaches, “See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.”
