The Seattle Times recently wrote about redefining work to save the planet. They recommended that we consider reducing the work week from 40 to 32 hours.
This newspaper also recommended that we provide a universal basic income or a social guarantee for housing and health care. In my opinion, these programs will discourage work and pay people for being unproductive.
This begs the question, “Why do we work?” Since the world sends conflicting messages, it might be helpful to discuss work from a Biblical perspective.
The very first verse in the Bible reveals that God is a worker and a creator.
Genesis 1:1 says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
God created and found enjoyment in His work. Wouldn’t He want the same for you and I?
