Integrity Moments is a 60 second workday devotional that provides business leaders with helpful insight into what the Bible says about our work and how we can fully integrate our faith into our vocational calling.

According to a Wall Street Journal article, Cornell professor, Vanessa Bohns, discovered that people making requests tended to think that indirect requests will work just as well as direct ones.

Bohns’ research discovered that when we ask for help, we often soften the ask by hinting to what we need rather than being clear and direct. There have been times when I’ve hinted at something to an employee, instead of asking directly, and then am surprised when that task never gets completed.

In Matthew 7:7, Jesus told His disciples, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

Receiving what you ask for is far less likely when your ask is indirect. Be clear and direct.
