There was a season when I was managing two loan officers who were very competitive with each other. There were times when I felt like a referee, often being asked to make decisions and choose between these two lenders.

It was tempting to side with the one producing the most loan volume to keep her happy, even when it was undeserved. Favoritism, however, results in an injustice to the other party and will often embolden the one who gets favored to misbehave.

Zechariah 8:16 teaches, “These are the things that you shall do: Speak the truth to one another; render in your gates judgments that are true and make for peace.”

When you’re called upon to referee situations, seek truth, justice, and how best to bring peace to every situation.
