When I was a young banker, I worked in a very controlled environment with strict lending limits. My individual loan authority was only $15,000.
When I switched banks one of my first questions was the size of my loan authority. When my new boss said I could make loans up to $250,000, I was stunned.
Over time I learned to greatly appreciate his trust and empowerment.
In Matthew 10:1, we read, “Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.”
Jesus trusted and empowered His disciples, ultimately resulting in the Gospel being spread globally.
In business, you can limit risk by limiting authority. But for significant growth, trusting and empowering others is usually a better approach.
