All new hires are important, but a small business jeopardizes their culture even more if someone makes a poor hiring decision. If you have twenty employees who have represented your organization well, hiring the wrong person will hurt, but it’s unlikely to devastate your culture.
However, if you’re the only employee and you bring on someone new, they become 50% of your culture. They can quickly undermine your customer’s view about your organization.
Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 3:10, “Like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each man must be careful how he builds on it.”
Regardless of size, be careful as to who you ask to join your team. But, if you’re a small organization, be even more cautious.
